The United States Mint will began production on the Presidential Dollar Series in 2007 featuring the images of all 37 of the nation's deceased Presidents. Each of the US Presidents from Washington to Nixon will be commemorated with a One Dollar Legal Tender Coin. The backside of the Presidential coins will feature the Statue of Liberty. Four coins will be issued each year beginning in 2007. The coins will be issued in the order of the President's term in office. The Secretary of the Treasury will oversee coin design.
In December 2005, Congress approved the creation of a new dollar coinage, known as Presidential dollars, and President George W. Bush signed the legislation into law shortly afterward. During each year from 2007 to 2016, four different dollar designs, each bearing the image of a different president, are being released. Living presidents, both current and former, are excluded from the program—thus the roster of presidential honorees currently stands at 37. For these presidents, 38 coins are planned; this is because Grover Cleveland, who to date is the only president to serve multiple nonconsecutive terms, will be represented with two coins. The Presidential dollars are part of the Golden Dollar Program and retain the same golden color as the Sacagawea dollars. The motto IN GOD WE TRUST appears in edge lettering—a first for a U.S. coin, as the motto has never before appeared on the rim. The year of issue is likewise on the rim.

Washington And Adams Dollar Errors In Stock!

2007 Presidential George Washington dollar coin with the now famous missing edge lettering. This is the first coin of the Presidential Dollar Series and there's a very good chance the mint won't let this happen again. Your uncirculated coin will be just like the error coin pictured with no edge lettering.
This is a major error in line with the 1955 Doubled Die Cent! Most significant error coin in decades! The general collecting public is not yet aware of this error. Nationwide publicity is just starting. The price has exploded on various auction sites and the Home Shopping Network is preparing a promotion in the next couple of weeks, which will significantly increase the demand for this coin.
"A Statement from the United States Mint"
"The United States Mint has struck more than 300 million George Washington Presidential $1 Coins. We have recently learned that an unspecified quantity of these coins inadvertently left the United States Mint at Philadelphia without edge-lettering on them. It is unknown how many of these coins without inscriptions on the edge have been placed into circulation.
The United States Mint understands the importance of the inscriptions “In God We Trust” and “E Pluribus Unum,” as well as the mint mark and year on U.S. coinage. We take this matter seriously. We also consider quality control a high priority. The agency is looking into the matter to determine a possible cause in the manufacturing process.
Production of the Presidential $1 Coin, with its unique edge-lettering, is a new, complex, high volume manufacturing system, and the United States Mint is determined to make technical adjustments to perfect the process. As we adjust this new process, we intend to eliminate any such defects."

Please Note:
Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) signifies that a coin is without wear and will grade MS60 or better. All Uncirculated coins have "bag marks". Coins are shipped from the United States Mint loose in ballistic bags of over 100,000 coins and abrasions occur when the coins come in contact with each other. These "bag marks" are normal and does not mean that the coin has been circulated. We package and ship the coins in tubes, flips, or 2x2 holders, "as they come" from the Mint bag. As a result, some will have more bag marks than others. We make no Guarantee as to grade (number of bagmarks) other than Brilliant Uncirculated (MS60 or better).

The above image is provided to show that scuffs around the edge of the Washington Dollars is evident on Normal Edge Lettering examples. Some of the No Edge Lettering examples have this same scuff. Collector's should beware of any No Edge Lettering Dollar that weighs less than 8 grams. Less than this weight would indicate that the coin has been altered outside of the mint.
